On Friday I was lucky enough to go and talk to a group of 6th grade girls about being a scientist. It was so much fun talking to them about water & watersheds, being a scientist, and playing in the woods. I strongly encourage everyone to seek out similar opportunities.
In addition, we did an activity that I shamelessly stole from Project WET (there is also a Project WILD, if you are less water inclined than I). In it the students need to find the source of arsenic contamination by testing well water — keeping in mind they have a limited number of new wells they can drill. It was great watching the different approaches they took to solving the problem. Yeah Science!
