The 3 day Novus II workshop was focused around discussions about integrating impacts of ecosystem disturbance across scales of time, space, and disturbance type:
1) What are the mechanisms of regime change versus resilience in ecosystems? What characteristics of a disturbance regime matter for ecosystem processes?
2) Under what circumstances are ‘legacy effects’ driving modern processes and when/where are they uncoupled?
Most of the time was spent discussing the above ideas & creating conceptual diagrams, on Day 2 we got a chance to explore Rocky Mountain National Park.
Examples of disturbance were all around us:

Our walk to Chickaree Lake was like a nature walk on steroids – I think I tripled my knowledge about bark beetles and Lodge Pole pines.
