Stream Ecology on the Block – Part II

This past week in EV311 (Stream Ecology) we added biology to the mix and visited Beaver Creek State Wildlife Area near Penrose, Colorado to examine how small scale habitat changes in streams can affect who lives there (i.e. macroinvertebrates).

We also collected water for alkalinity and dissolved oxygen measurements – because every good stream ecologist needs to know how to titrate.

On Thursday we started our detailed study of Mesa Creek (within Sondermann Park) with a Tracer Test!

Next week: Electrofishing and bringing it all together with detailed reach studies on Mesa Creek.
