Stream Ecology on the Block: Part III

So the insanity of the block continues … 18 days = entire course … this week EV311 went electrofishing on Monument Creek, started their final projects, and learned the power and perils of excel (nutrient uptake metrics and stream metabolism).

Monday: Electrofishing in Monument Creek (between Unitah and Cache La Poudre) – we caught 80 fish in 300 ft (5 species: white sucker, long nose sucker, long nose dace, creek chub, and fat head minnow). Thanks to Paul and Cory from DNR for all their help!

Tuesday through Friday afternoons were spent working on their reach projects along Mesa Creek. Students have a 200 ft reach to examine the abiotic and biotic controls on stream ecosystems. 2017 EV311 Final Project
